What Are Geriatrics?

Geriatrics is a medical specialty focused on the healthcare of older adults, with a focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of age-related conditions and diseases. Unlike gerontology, which studies the aging process broadly, geriatrics targets medical issues to provide clinical care tailored to seniors. Proper geriatric care ensures seniors receive specialized medical attention, helping to manage chronic illnesses and improve quality of life.

Geriatrics teaches us how to achieve positive aging and senior wellness. At Noah's Dove we are a center for  healthy aging in our community.

What is Gerontology?

Gerontology is the study of aging and the challenges that come with it. This field includes the physical, mental and social aspects of growing older, aiming to improve the quality of life for seniors. By understanding the aging process, gerontologists develop effective strategies to address the the key to healthy aging. This holistic approach promotes not only physical health, but also emotional well-being and social engagement. At Noah's Dove, gerontological principles are key to understanding the kind of senior home care that seniors require depending on their individual conditions and lifestyle preferences.

Montessori Inspired Aging

Purposeful activities can be big (e.g., decorating the community for the holidays, collecting donations for the local food bank, teaching children from the local school how to hang their coats on a hanger), or they can be small (e.g., watering the plants, reading the morning news, wiping off the table after mealtime). These types of activities offer a sense of meaning and are a key to healthy aging, accomplishment, and self-efficacy.
